HGTV HOUSE HUNTERS
"Sonoma House" airs on House Hunters April 24!
Sonoma House may not be the home "picked" by the couple in the episode, but the green prefab was the reason HGTV and Pie Town productions contacted American Home Sales. We coordinated with our local Eco-Realtor, Marti Messina, who had been working with the couple featured. All of us at American Home Sales are excited for this opportunity to promote and educate homebuyers and the HGTV viewing audience about green prefab homes!

Prefab Blog ~ Your 2009 New Year Resolution...
"Waste Not, Watt Not!"
Easy Energy Solutions For Your 2009 Eco-Resolutions!
If anybody on your list has been complaining about higher energy costs, the Kill a Watt EZ electricity usage monitor for $34 will plug into any appliance or device and let you know how much energy it's using.
If your recipient is concerned about "vampire power" -- appliances that suck energy even when they're turned off -- consider the Smart Strip LCG3 power strip. It's a surge protector with 10 outlets that saves electricity by automatically cutting power to devices that aren't in use. (Two of the outlets are designed to stay on all the time, so you can plug in devices you don't want to shut down, such as a broadband modem or TiVo.)

Green Gift Ideas for Kids!

Flashlights (rechargeable or windup): On camping trips and sleepovers with kids of all ages, I've noticed an enduring fascination with flashlights and lanterns. Save money on batteries by getting a Dynamo wind-up for $10 or an American Red Cross lantern with a radio and cell phone charger for $40.
Art supplies: Washable markers and craft supplies are always a hit with the kids, but in keeping with our save-the-earth-and-money theme, I'd suggest creating a kit that allows kids to make their own reusable tote bags.
You can buy canvas bags of various sizes at crafts stores. I picked up a package of six white purse-sized totes at Michaels for under $10 and spent $5 on puffy fabric paint. Kids will spend a couple of happy hours decorating and customizing their bags, which will haul library books, homework and snacks.
Some say brown-bagging your lunch is now chic. I'm not sure about that, but Wrap-N-Mats eliminate the need for plastic bags and wrap, as do happy-sacks, which are fabric bags for sandwiches and snacks.

Go with the (low) Flow!
A low-flow showerheadwhich uses less hot watercan reduce carbon-dioxide emissions 376 pounds and lower your utility bill $20 to $40 annually. It is also the single most effective water conservation savings that can be done in a home by reducing water consumption by as much as 50%
After fresh air, fresh water is the one thing we can't live without. And with increasing population demands and the effects of climate change, water may become the scarcest resource of all in the coming years. That's why it's imperative that we all do our part to conserve. Our Green Homes have replaced a few simple devices in the kitchen and bath with low-flow models that will help reduce your water use and save money, too.
